lanidseriwad

/ 'lənid ˌsɛ'riwəd / n.

The oath-treaty undertaken by all sarvaerja to end their first and only war. Overseen by Actae, he ruled that sarvaerja were henceforth forbidden from directly engaging in combat with each other, as their unchecked sorceries clashing could very well tear apart the world itself. Actae did not wish to destroy his creations, finding far too much interest in them. But he laid down the ultimatum that if they would destroy his entire world instead, he had no choice but to limit their activities. The choice was to either comply with the Lanidseriwad or be removed from existence.

As a result, all deities undertook the oath-treaty, leaving each and every one bound by its magics. Under its effects, they are physically incapable of utilising sorceries to harm another deity.

Thus, after the Lanidseriwad, deities soon developed a system in which they would create powerful fenvaerja children to fight for them instead, thereby avoiding the disallowed fights between sarvaerja. These fenvaerja children were colloquially named 'halflings'. Any disputes over territory, resources, and influence were to be decided through the actions these halfings undertook.
