universal calendar

introduction

The Actaeran calendar is divided into twenty months that each span fifty days. Though things may differ depending on the region you are located in, the sentiment remains similar. Listed below are the months alongside the respective imagery associated with them.

1. diwabinna: "the first awakening"

Considered the beginning of the calendar year, this is where the first signs of spring start to show. Snow and ice begin to slowly melt and Actae's emblematic flower, the snowdrop, begins to emerge from the earth. This is where the prime mining season tends to end.

2. kratuinna: "the creator's cleansing"

This month is characterised by long periods of heavy rains with a constant overcast sky. Snow and ice begin to expeditiously melt and floods are common. Inundation occurs this month.

3. jukotinna: "the wheel-turning"

The aggressive rain from the previous month now ceases and all that remains are a plethora of puddles, damp ground, and rainbows. Birds begin to sing in the morning again and ‘spring cleaning' occurs. During this process, inventory and storage checks and goals are planned out for the year. Winter clothing is also put away now in exchange for regular clothing. This is regarded as the start of prime hunting months.

4. kanlodinna: "the life-giving"

Farmers and those who deal with cultivating flora will plant their seeds this month. The natural flora of the land, the grass, weeds, and leaves on trees, tend to emerge as well. This is regarded as the prime animal breeding month.

5. nonbolinna: "the land-stirring"

The weather is starting to get noticeably warmer now. From pure white, the sky is now visibly a baby blue or light blue during the day, despite being obscured partially by clouds, and its hue will continue to grow increasingly saturated in the coming months. Business-related travel and trade starts to pick up pace now.

6. fontorbinna: "The heart's return"

Fog is most common during this month. Though not incredibly impactful, natural kheji is most abundant and regenerates most readily during this month. One's magic and sorceries will display higher than normal effects. The effects of this month are the highest in the middle of the month and are less apparent in the beginning and end. Kheji remains in this month's state until Arajinna.

7. hanetsinna: "The world-calling"

Voluminous, white clouds often veil the sky during this time of year. Waterspouts and thunderstorms are most prevalent now as well, but far from a common sight. This is regarded as the prime pottery, glass making, and earthenware month.

8. meveriinna: "the realm-searching"

Once the storms have subsided, the waters now calm and fishers begin to set sail and cast out their nets. A light breeze seems to constantly blow, keeping temperatures mellow. This is where the prime fishing season begins.

9. sesgukinna: "the way-finding"

Flowers are in full bloom now, creating a sight to behold. Tourism season starts at the month's beginning now as people begin to travel for leisure. This is regarded as the prime woodworking month.

10. arajinna: "the sky's parting"

Summer is on at full force and the days are very long. During this month, the sky is a bright, saturated blue. Reaching the most intense colour of the year, its hue will grow decreasingly saturated in the coming months. The sun is high in the sky, bright as can be. On the 25th every 10 years, a holiday known as Bevanastam occurs. The stars will dance, swirl, and break apart in the sky. When it is not the year of a Bevanastam, people use fireworks to mimic its effects.

11. lanaeginna: "the map-charting"

The fruit planted earlier in the year is now fully ripened, perfect for picking. More often than not, people find themselves inspired during this month. As such, this is regarded as the prime month for any of the creative arts. This is also regarded as the prime weaving and textile work month.

12. vokhusinna: "the path-walking"

Tourism season comes to an end shortly after the start of this month. Temperature begins to mellow out more from the intense heat. Dust storms will occur during this time of year. This is typically the month where academic-related graduation and ceremonies take place. Simultaneously, this is when new students begin their studies as well, albeit in the latter half of the month.

13. pasjvinna: "the gift-bearing"

The month most focused on religion, prayer, and offerings, this is also when the annual harvest for grain and vegetables occurs. Meat consumption is lower during this month as it is set aside for preservation. The end of the month signals the end of the prime hunting season.

14. chaelfinna: "the heart's retreat"

A period of consistently calm, clear skies with little weather to its name, almost eerily so. Though not incredibly impactful, natural kheji is least abundant and regenerates most slowly during this month. One's magic and sorceries will display less prominent effects than normal. A month full of wind and the occasional tornado, gales run strong nearly all day and night. 20. nilukinna: "the final quieting"

Coldest time of year with the longest nights. Snowdrifts are piled high, blizzards run rampant and activity outside of the home is low.
