religion

introduction

Deities are known to be very real in this world, so it is rare to find fenvaerja who do not pray or make offerings to seek assistance from the divine.

lumen religion

In the Lumen faction, though some people and settlements have patron gods that they devote their lives to, most people look to the appropriate god for the subject they need addressed. For example, even if your town's patron deity is Teneb, the god of fire, summer, and love, if you sought safe travels at sea, you would instead seek out favour from Yrets and Fifil.

Typically, prayers and offerings are acknowledged but not responded to. Some deities respond quite frequently to requests from the fenvaerja while others seldom respond at all, even to their devotees. Still others respond on a whim, either guided by their mood that day or by their interest in a specific request. A lot of factors play into whether a prayer or offering has any effect.

Like mortals, halflings pray to all deities at Rehjolvnatys. Their divine parent usually serves as a definitive patron god of some sort, but besides that, they undergo the same process as mortals.

vesper religion

In the Vesper faction, almost all prayers and offerings are directed towards Kara. A small minority are directed towards Jirnr, making him the only god that both Lumen and Vesper acknowledge as legitimate.

By far, Kara is the type of deity that responds to prayers on a whim. In the eyes of the Vesper, this means everyone has an equal chance of being selected for a blessing.

actae's role

Actae is not often sought out, despite his role as the universe's creator and most powerful entity. This is because Actae does not respond to prayer or offerings. The people are aware that Actae rarely interacts with even the deities themselves, content to watch on endlessly. In a sense, he is the guardian of the universe and will not act unless the very fabric of reality is about to be torn apart, such as his intervention leading up to the Lanidseriwad. However, even then, it is not certain he will intervene a second time...

The only individuals Actae interacts with in a semi-regular manner are his two halfling children, Ren and Halvatt, as their very existence fascinates him to no end. But for most fenvaerja, it is not known that Actae has halfling children. Ren and Halvatt, when it comes up in conversation, attribute their lineage to Yrets and Kalir respectively.

the deities

Deities are separated into various classes depending roughly on their birth order. Their birth order also generally dictates how powerful they are. In this last section below are the different classes of deity in their order of birth.

the first god

Actae is the deity of creation, endlessness, and nihility. He was the first being to inhabit the universe that he would name after himself, Actaera. Actae himself was originally draconic in nature, but created shapeshifting and the humanoid form in order to contain the endless flow of kheji that radiated from his draconic body. He resides in the Shoylu, a plane of existence that is endlessly dense in loose kheji. Possessing a collected, unreadable demeanour, he enjoys his role as a watcher of the world and seldom intervenes in its affairs. Instead, he finds great amusement in observing his eternal creation, wondering what will play out next in the script.

Actae's symbols are the opal, the dragon, and circles. He does not have a preferred armament and has never been seen in combat.

the primal gods

Actae's first group of offspring, all four of them being created simultaneously. They existed before Actaera's physical conception and are unfathomably powerful, only outdone by Actae himself.

the elder gods

Actae's second group of offspring. With their creation came the creation of physical Actaera as it is known, though no other life resided there for quite some time after the fact. Beyond this tier, any deities born after do not have the ability to pass on their draconic traits to their offspring.

the highborn gods

Actae's third group of offspring. The first fenvaerja were created after these deities' conception, becoming the first form of non divine life in Actaera.

the arcane gods

Actae's fourth group of offspring. Prior to this group of deities, mortals had no methods of manipulating kheji. That ability, along with the ability to shapeshift into certain forms, was conferred upon them here on after.

the new age gods

Actae's fifth group of offspring. With this group came the rest of life in Actaera, from animals to plant life to everything in between.

the final gods

Actae's sixth and last group of children. They came to be near the end of the divine war between Igal and Kara's factions, and are often regarded as the beginning of an era of division amongst mortals between Lumen and Vesper, marked by the Lanidseriwad
