extended bio:

Ren's fate was woven long before her birth, with the onset of Lucinda's story. Lucinda was a talented portal weaver and devout follower of the Eivyalhan goddess, Taladi. Eivyal was a dying realm, and as the seams of the universe came undone in that distant world, Taladi, the creator goddess, was able to catch a glimpse of another, younger universe that could be consumed to save her own: Arvastaira.

After several unsuccessful attempts with other champions to cross the rift between universes, Taladi managed to guide Lucinda to Arvastaira, setting her plan to consume their world in motion.

Instead of biding her time in isolation as Taladi had wished, however, Lucinda chose to venture out into this new world and discover what it had to offer. As a result, her unusual presence was noticed before Taladi could transfer a greater extent of her powers and will to Lucinda.

Her champion's presence was detected by Atei himself, the creator god of Arvastaira. Ever the curious, experiment-minded soul, Atei took it upon himself to study Lucinda and her odd powers, which eventually resulted in the creation of a child with lineage from both universes.

Due to the discreet influence Taladi exerted on the process, this 'child', however, ended up becoming a set of twins. Atei found it to be a delightful anomaly, and he became intrigued by the offspring. The firstborn child was strong, healthy, and its potential was plain to see. The secondborn child was inadequate in every way. Malnourished and underweight, it was as if it should've died. In fact, it statistically should not have existed in the first place. Its magic was severely lacking, on par with a regular fenva.

But this only served to interest Atei more.

As Lucinda's mental frame deteriorated, though, she became incredibly possessive of the second child. It was a girl, and she believed it a sign from the goddess. She desperately hoped that it was, as Lucinda couldn't reconcile with the concept that she had been abandoned.

Playing on this fear, Atei offered to "bargain" for the child. Feigning concern, he told Lucinda that their child was at risk. Its appearance easily betrayed how weak it was, and combined with its odd keirsi deficit, the child would not survive infancy. Its body would give way before it could ever grow.

However, Atei was a rational god. He had this child with Lucinda because he wished to see it reach its full potential. It was in his best interest that it didn't die, so thus, he would find a way for it to live.

In exchange for this favour, though, Lucinda had to relinquish control of her life. Atei wanted data, and to gather data on a foreign species such as herself, she would have to stop fighting his attempts to do so.

As long as she submitted to his will, the child would come to no harm. He would personally see to that. But if she exhibited any disobedience, Atei could cut the child's lifeline at any moment.

Terrified, but desperate for any glimmer of hope, Lucinda shakily agreed to those terms. It was impossible to escape Atei as things were now. The creator god of this world had her in his sights, and he was never going to let her go of his own volition. She was too interesting of a subject. But if her child lived, perhaps something could change.

Perhaps the goddess would make things right again.

Yet Atei had no intent of protecting the child. He did not enjoy protecting any of his experiments, much preferring to see them adapt on their own. But neither was there a need to protect the child in the first place. Atei knew that the child, though strangely ordinary and dull, had no significant defects that would threaten its life.

When it came to the male child, Lucinda had not clung onto it nearly as tightly, and Atei found he could do with it as he pleased. But to truly see the outcome of this second child, she would have to be removed from her mother's watchful gaze as well.

And Lucinda, with no understanding of this world and nobody to speak to but Atei, was simple enough to manipulate.

Since the keirsi concentrated within this second child was so unremarkable, she was identical to a fenva in every way; she would have no trouble passing as one.

Atei created a pocket dimension for the first child, Halvatt, because he was undeniably the more powerful one. Without such precautions, the child may tear itself apart before it ever came to bear results. Being as such, the pocket dimension mimicked the properties of kerisi in the real world, but at a much lower density.

For the girl, though perhaps it would be interesting to set it loose into the world and see what became of it throughout the years.

Ren was set down in a patch of veseroluun woods, and eventually, she was discovered and adopted by Ira Tarasa, an aging alchemist that lived on the fringes of society. Due to Ira's status as a neveniati, those who interacted with her were equally shunned and feared. But despite the loneliness that lingered in their lives, she still loved Ren like the daughter she never had, and the two lived together happily.

A few days after Ren turned sixteen, however, she would wake up in the middle of the night to find her home ablaze. When she found Ira in her chambers, her adoptive mother was dead at the feet of a masked stranger with wild red hair. The stranger, unbeknownst to her, was her twin brother Halvatt.

He proceeded to kidnap Ren and imprison her in a dilapidated vesera ruins, leaving her confused and scared. A few days later, Ren overheard a conversation between the masked stranger and an unfamiliar voice debating the process they would use to extract Ren's remaining powers. One of the first steps they detailed was how to cut open her body and pry out her still-beating heart.

Terrified of what was to come, some form of latent magic within Ren began to stir, causing her to perform a draconic shift for the first time in her life.

Now in the form of a dragon, she broke through the imprisonment magic and fled the scene in a panic, knowing nothing but the need to get as far away from these people as possible.

After hours of adrenaline and erratic attempts to stay in the air, Ren managed to land in a secluded forest grove, where she would forcibly shift back into her regular form out of exhaustion. Though she was still afraid, the keirsi reserves within her had been depleted, and she struggled to run much further.

Curling up, she began to feel incredibly cold, as if something within her body had been altered. She had never felt this way before, and her timid heart beat erratically at the thought of dying out here, alone. Her breathing was laboured, and the trees flickered in and out of sight, as if they were about to detach from reality.

In a stroke of luck, a passing fenvasi, Aidan Fasiran, noticed the pained sounds coming from nearby. Though he seemed rather troubled by this meeting, after stabilising Ren's condition, he offered to take her back with him to Resovinasis, suggesting that it may help lead her to the truth of what happened that horrible night.

And although Ren was confused by his demeanour, her gratitude for the stranger's unexpected kindness outweighed any doubts she had. With nowhere else to go, Ren accepted, hopeful that this would be a new beginning.

The gods of Resovinasis were taken aback by Ren's ability to achieve a draconic form, a trait only seen in offspring of the eldest divinities. However, try as they might, they could not accurately determine her heritage. The composition of her essence was entirely bland. The sole "exception" to her unremarkable traits was her incredibly poor control of keirsi. Despite her ability to perform a draconic shift, her ability to control keirsi fell below the standards of even regular fenva at her age.

After much deliberation, they allowed the Elder god Yilensat to adopt her, not wanting this oddity of nature to potentially wander into the wrong hands. With her fate as a fenvasi set in stone, Ren was eager to find her place in the world, determined to follow her heart to whatever distant futures awaited ahead.
